Final circular

CONFERENCE VENUE. The 55th Annual Meeting of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE 2022) will be held in the Faculty of Law (Facultatea de Drept) of the University of Bucharest, which is in the city centre at the address 36-46 Mihail Kogălniceanu. Buses and trolleybuses that stop in front of venue (Facultatea de Drept): 122, 137, 138, 268, 381, 336, 601; 61, 69, 90, 91. Subway stop near the venue: Eroilor. The use of face masks is not compulsory, but recommended indoors.

PROGRAMME. All the information concerning the scientific programme can be found here. You will receive a printed copy of the schedule and the extended programme with your conference pack at the Reception Desk.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION. You can find routes by public transportation here. OR For simplicity, install the app Info Transport Bucharest (Google Play or AppleStore) or moovit.

The subway and most of the buses and trolleybuses are equipped with contactless terminals and you can pay for your trip with your (VISA, MasterCard, etc) card. The price of a trip is 3RON (approx. 0.60 EURO). If you use the subway, using the contactless terminal is a very good option (you only pay once for the journey even if you change the subway line). For buses and trolleybuses, the ticket you pay is valid for 90 minutes.

An alternative way is to install on your smartphone the official app 24pay), which is a simple e-wallet that allows you to make cashless purchases. Add your credit card details in the payment processor’s page (24pay only stores the card’s final 4 digits). All transactions are secured by Visa/Mastercard technology. For transactions that exceed the limit (between 0 and 10 lei), fingerprint or PIN confirmation is required. Select the city where you are using the app (in our case, Bucharest) and follow the instructions. For more details, see here.

REGISTRATION. The Reception Desk is situated in the main lobby at the Faculty of Law, 36-46 Mihail Kogălniceanu. The opening times of the Reception Desk are as follows: Tuesday (23 August): 16.00-20.00; Wednesday through Friday (24‒26 August): 8.00-19.00; Saturday (27 August): 8.30-14.00.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS. Oral presentations last 25 minutes. The actual presentation should be 20 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for questions. 5 minutes are reserved for room changes. It is recommended to copy your presentation on the desktop of the computer in your session room in advance, during the coffee or lunch breaks, at least 10 minutes before the whole session starts. All the rooms have a computer. We recommend that you bring your presentation as a PDF (or Power Point) file on a memory stick. There will be student assistants who will help you if necessary.

WI-FI. Wireless Internet is available in the building (unibuc freewifi or the local network of the Faculty of Law Drept, which has the password: 0123456789).

POSTER SESSION. The poster session will take place on Thursday 25 August, overlapping with the morning coffee break. It will take place on the ground floor, from 10.30 to 11.30. Posters should be vertical and A0 in size (84 x 118 cm). Presenters can bring and pin their posters between 8.00 and 10.00 (we will provide pins). For printing posters locally, we recommend Romera Print Center (Bulevardul Mihail Kogalniceanu 24), which charges €12 per A0 poster.

HANDOUTS. We expect around 350 participants distributed over 10 parallel sessions. So, if you are bringing handouts, it would be advisable to bring around 20 copies for a presentation in the general session or in a short (one-day) workshop; for long (1.5 day) workshops count more, around 40. We recommend that you print them before you come to Bucharest. It will not be possible to print out handouts at the conference office, but there are printing shops in the vicinity of the venue (see Romera Print Center above).

SLIDES. All rooms will have computers, and it may be easiest if you bring your presentation on a memory stick in PDF (or Power Point) format. If you want to use your own computer, it would be good to have a VGA connection for the projection, as we may not be able to fully support HDMI.

RECEIPTS and CERTIFICATES. Your receipt of payment will be sent electronically on Sunday 21 August. If you detect any mistake in the receipt, you are invited to let our Treasurer know during the conference. The SLE office will be located on the first floor, in the Sala Seminar 2.22. The certificates of attendance will be sent after SLE 2022, on Monday 29 August. They will contain your name, your affiliation and the title of your presentation.

PUBLISHERS. There will be representatives of Brill, Edinburgh University Press, Oxford University Press, as well as Bucharest University Press and Univers Enciclopedic (local publishing houses). There will also be stands of John Benjamins and De Gruyter.

SLE PRIZES for the best presentation/poster. We award prizes in the categories of best presentation by a PhD student, best presentation by a Postdoc and best poster presentation.
